RHODE ISLAND
Census Reports
1790 – 1950
==============
In the
1940 census and especially now in the 1950 Census, the handwriting on the
sheets is a bit better. But now that people are using Ancestry and Family
Search and putting their family trees up on the sites, and the sites themselves
have much better search engines and send you to a whole bunch of info docs and
records. I now can find a family sheet on about everyone and many on the wife’s
side. When I first started doing this in the very early 1970s, all that was
available to see was up to the 1900. There was no such thing as on-line and the
computers then were the size of a locker room. I had to drive out to Waltham,
Massachusetts to the U. S. Library, beg for a film real of the dates and State
I wanted and then look at it through a visual device in a back dark room and
literally go page to page, county to county and write the info down on paper
with a pencil. At that time, really the most people doing genealogy were older
women, mostly retired school teachers in their 70s and 80s, who would send you
hand written trees and info and stuff that they had back a couple of
generations. Once in a while I would get an actual typewritten document. Wow!
Got much better in the 1990s. Now it is soooo easy to
get info you didn’t think was possible. Back in the 70s I tried calling folks
and got a hold of a bunch of folks. Now just an e-mail brings in a thousand
years’ worth of info. Anyway, really
enjoy this and if you can add or correct, please let me know so I can help
others.
We do
know that Jokton Putnam from Charlton, Massachusetts
was here back in the 1770s. There are just a few by 1790. The listings are
males over 16, males under 16, and all females.
The
listing is 4-1-7. The name is spelled Jockthan on the
census. He’s been here a bit, see 1800. This town is just below the
Massachusetts border in the northwestern corner of Rhode Island.
He has
two listing in the same town, both are 1-1-1. Probably moving. This town is in
the southern part of the State, down near the coast and not that far from
Connecticut where John is probably from. He’s out-a-here before 1800.
In 1800
both males and females are broken into 0-9, 10- 15, 16-25, 26-44, 45 and over.
The
listing is 00111 21111. He is number
528, a son of Elisha Putnam (202) and Lydia Chase of Grafton and Sutton,
Massachusetts. Elisha died in Crown Point, New York in 1758 during the French
and Indian war. Jokton was born in Sutton May 1,
1750. He moved a few miles across the border to this area of northwest Rhode
Island. He married Anne Harris here April 7, 1770. He was the first Town
Moderator of Burrillville, Rhode Island. The family will remain here until about
1809, and then will head to maple sugar country and settle in Billymead, Caledonia County, Vermont. He and his son Joseph
will be there in 1810, but only Joseph in 1820. Rhode Island Vital Records
spell him as Yacktan Putnam. Pronounces that way
though.
Listing
is 00010 00010. Current thinking is that
he is number 989, a son of Fuller Putnam (391) and his first wife Mary Cummings
of Sutton, Massachusetts. He was born there September 27, 1754, and married
Elizabeth Harback. They moved to Maine in the late
1700s, and he operated a mill there which he sold ‘prior to 1806’ according to Eben. More than likely in the late 1790s and he came down
here. They never had any children. He will be just over the line in Troy,
Bristol County, Mass. in 1810.
In the
1810 census both males and females are listed as 0-9, 10- 15, 16-25, 26-44, 45
and over.
The
listing is 00100-00000. Best idea here is that this is Jokton’s
youngest son. Right now his dad and older brother
Joseph are just outside St. Johnsbury in northeastern Vermont, and there are no
other male kids with him. This William is number 1308, and was born in Glocester, Rhode Island February 26, 1874. That would make
him 26 now. He’ll be here again in 1820 and in 1850. He was probably here in
between, but just not indexed. There is a death record here f a Hannah Putnam
wife of William dying February 18, 1809 at age 26.
In the
1820 census males are broken down 0-9, 10-15, 16-18, 19-25, 26-44, 45 and
older. Females are divided 0-9, 10-15, 16-25, 26-44, 45 and over.
Nope,
didn’t move, just a county border adjustment. The current listing is
200010-120100. He and his new wife Lucy are in their 30s now.
There
are no Putnams listed, but obviously there were some here.
There
are no Putnams listed. When you get to 1850, you will see that there had to be
several Putnam families here in Rhode Island. But do keep in mind that the
Taunton, Massachusetts area was originally a part of Rhode Island, and the area
was in dispute. Some of these folks may have been there and in the
Massachusetts reports. Also, we found a bunch of PITMAN families in Bristol and
Newport Counties from 1810 on. Some were indexed as PUTMAN, but Matt Putnam
tracked them all back and they were part of a large Pitman family all over
southeast Rhode Island.
He is 34 CT, and has George E. 4 RI and Clara V. 2 RI. Then
there are four other folks listed, and then there is Harriet Putnam 31 MA
listed. She might be his wife, but it is hard to tell. At any rate he lists his
occupation as “California Gold Digger. He is indexed as Putnam but is a Putney,
and is here in 1860 and indeed listed as Putney.
He is a
scythe maker, 48 MA, Rebecca Church, his fourth wife, is 39 MA, Philander 16 MA
and Cyrus 6 MA. There is also a Church family from Rhode Island living with
them from Rebecca’s first marriage. He is number 2172, a son of Cyrus Putnam
(921) and Lucinda Hathaway of Sutton, Mass. He was born there February 6, 1803.
This family will be returning to Sutton shortly, but the son Philander will be
back here in about 1858, and pretty much forever. There is another son who is
missing here. He is Albro now age 6 CT. Albro is back in Sutton living with David’s brother Leander
Putnam. Albro will be in Uxbridge, Mass. in 1860 and
then in McLean County, Illinois in the 1870 and 1880 census. David himself will
be there with Albro in 1880. This line goes David
> Cyrus > David > Cornelius > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John.
He is a
carpenter 26 MA, Matilda Leonard 16 CDN. They live in a rooming house. He is
the same as the following guy. In 1860 Thomas J. Putnam who is back in Boston
lists himself as a carpenter but is single at the time.
He is
25 MA, a mechanic, and is boarding. He has two listings in two separate
boarding houses. In one he is married to a Mary 17 CAN. There is a record of
him marrying Maria Matilda Leonard here October 14, 1849. This one is a son of
Ephraim Putnam (1957) and Rachel Stoddard from Boston. He is back there with
his widowed mother in the 1860 census.
Jokton’s son is still here at age 72 MA
and is boarding.
BENJAMIN PUTMAN (?) Bristol, Bristol County RI 1850
Ben is a U. S. Inspector 54 RI, his wife Elizabeth 45 RI, and they
have Caroline 28 RI, Elizabeth 18 RI, Charles 16 RI, Helen 14 RI, Mary 13 RI,
Georgiana 10 RI, Josephine 7 RI, and Mary P. Reynolds 54 RI a Milliner. The
house seems to be headed by Elizabeth Reynolds 63 RI a spinster. He is indexed
as Putman but if you look at the sheet it is truly Pitman and there is a
gravestone record to this effect. You can thank Matt Putnam for finding this.
She is
17 MA and, in a Seminary here.
She is
25 RI and a black servant.
She is 61
RI and in the Poor House. She’ll be here in 1870.
She is
27 (18?) RI and has Sidney G. 2 RI (born December 19, 1857) with her. They are
boarding. There is a record of an Avery D. Putnam marrying Ellen L. Smith in
Rhode Island September 28, 1854. Avery was single in Boston in 1850 and is off
somewhere now. He and Ellen and Sidney are all in New York City in 1870. He
will die there April 28, 1871 at age 44.
In his 1908 book, Eben Putnam says “Who was
Avery D. Putnam, assaulted 26 April 1871, by William Foster in New York? Putnam
died on the 29th. Foster was hung 21 March 1873.” Interesting. Avery
was a son of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena
Bassett from Holden, Worcester County. In 1880 She and Sidney will be with her
folks Scott and Ada Smith here in Providence. Sidney will die there August 3,
1883. Ellen Louisa will die there May 25, 1885.
He is Albro Philander Putnam 27 CT (should be MA) and a
blacksmith, Margaretta Norcross 25 VT, Herbert 3 MA and Clara 1 RI. He was here
in 1850 with his folks David and Rebecca Putnam. Then it looks as if they all
went back to Sutton Massachusetts, and Philander just returned here about 2
years ago. He’ll be here forever after that.
He is
32 MA, Cordelia Brown 31 RI, Charles E. 6 RI, Adolphus 4 RI, Cordelia 2 RI and Albert
6/12 RI. He is a farmer. I think he is a son of David Putnam (2172) from
Sutton. The above Philander would be his brother. They are here in 1870. The
first three kids were born back in Worcester County, Mass. They are in the area
in 1870, 1880 and he is widowed in 1900 and will die in 1909 in Cranston.
He is
30 NY, Olivia J. Woodbury 26 NH, and they are boarding. He lists himself as a
journeyman watchmaker. He is a son of Israel and Mary D. Putnam. Israel was a
son of Archelaus Putnam from here in Windsor County. The family went into New
York in the 1820s and that’s where George was born. He married Olivia Woodbury
December 7, 1851 in Windsor County, Vermont. He was single there in 1850.
GEORGE
L. PUTNAM Warwick, Kent County
He is a
clergyman 41 NH, his wife Eliza A. is 40, Annie W. 20 MA, Mary S. 17 MA, Lucius
H. 14 MA. George L. Putnam is a son of John Putnam and Sabrina Wiley and was
born on 22 Jun 1826 in Amherst, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. He married
Eliza Ann Richards on 29 Dec 1844 in Stonington, New London County,
Connecticut. George and family were in Lowell, Middlesex County, Mass. in 1850.
They were in Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire in 1860.
LOUIS
PUTMAN Warwick, Kent County
He is a
cotton carder 39 Canada, his wife Mary is 33 Canada, Adelaide 16 Canada, Rosa
13 Canada, Mary 11 Canada, James 9 Canada, Mary 7 Canada, Louisa 3 Canada,
Edward 1 Canada. He should be a Potvin or some such other recent arrival from
Quebec.
MARY
A. PUTMAN Newport, Newport County
She is
a seamstress 27 MA and is living with a Nichols family. Not sure if she is
related or not.
PHILANDER
PUTNAM Burrillville, Providence County
He is a
scythe maker 31 CT, his wife Margaretta Norcross is 29 VT, Herbert E. G. 8 MA,
Clara E. 6 born in Smithfield. Also living here is Philander’s father David
Putnam a scythe maker 62 MA. Lastly there is Albro
Putnam a scythe maker 19 CT.
SARAH
PUTNAM Cumberland, Providence County
She is
66 born in Cumberland. Sarah is listed as a pauper and cannot read or write.
Sarah Alexander was born here in Cumberland sometime in the 1793-1799
time frame. She will die here on 14 Sep 1877 aged 84. Sarah was here in
the poor house in Cumberland in 1850 listed as Sarah Alexander. By 1860 though
Sarah was listed as a Putnam. It looks like she married a Putnam man who then
died between 1850 and 1860. Or maybe she just changed her name? Sarah was Black
although she isn’t always listed as such. Her mother was Massey, or perhaps
Mercy, Alexander.
CHARLES
PUTMAN Smithfield, Providence County
He is a
laborer 36 MA, his wife Cordelia Brown is 37 born in Smithfield, Charles E. 11
born in Smithfield, Adolphus B. 10 born in Smithfield, Adelia E. 8 MA, Alvin L.
6 born in Smithfield, Edwina M. 4 born in Smithfield, Lillian 1 born in
Smithfield. He should be Charles Abner Putnam who was born in Sutton, Mass. on
10 Dec. 1828. He appears to be a son of David Putnam (2172) and Polly Titus
originally from Sutton. David is now living with his son Philander in
Burrillville.
MARK
PUTMAN Smithfield, Providence County
He is a
weaver 46 NH, his wife Mary Twiss is 45 NH. They have
several people living with them who do not appear to be related. Mark Putnam is
a son of Gideon Putnam and Sarah Barnes of Nottingham, Rockingham County, New
Hampshire. They will be here in 1870 before returning to New Hampshire.
He is
now listed as 40 ME (MA), and his wife Cordelia Brown as 38 VT (RI), Charles 16
MA, Adolphus 14 MA, Cordelia E. 12 ME (RI), Albert G. 10 ME (RI), Ella V. 8 RI,
Sallie 5 RI, Minerva 3 RI and Sarah 1 RI. In 1860, all the kids to that point
were listed as RI, Charles as MA, same in 1880, so this Maine stuff isn’t
correct. He came here in the late 1850s and was here in 1860. The first couple
of kids were born back in Worcester County, Mass. and the rest here in
Providence County. Pretty sure he is a son of David Putnam (2172) from Sutton.
He is
still a blacksmith, now 36 CT, Margaretta Norcross 34 VT, Herbert E. 13 MA and
Clara E. 11 RI.
She is
now 72 RI and still here in the poor house.
He is
24 CT, Mary Ann Blackman his wife is 18 MA. He is a woolen corder.
He is a son of Austin and Mary Putnam of Sturbridge, Mass. He was in Putnam,
Windham County, Conn. in 1860 and will be back there in 1880.
She is
16 CT and has Laura J. 2/12 RI. She is keeping house. Rand Putnam found
“According to someone on Ancestry, she is Almeda Jenette Davis. Her parents are
Davis. I do not know where the Putnam comes from. They do have her married to
William Ide and he is the father of Laura J. Putnam Ide. In the 1875 RI
census, they are both Ide. Anyway, perhaps Almeda Davis had Laura J. out of
wedlock with Putnam and then William Ide took them in and eventually married
Almeda.”
He is
38 RI, Sarah J. 36 RI, Susan S. 10 RI, James B. 6 RI. He lists himself as a
retired grocer.
He is
57 NH, Mary 51 NH and they have George 14 NH. They
live in a boarding house, and he works in a cotton mill. Finally, I know
someone. Mark is a son of Gideon Putnam and Sarah Barnes. He was born in
Nottingham, Rockingham County, New Hampshire on December 10, 1818. He married
Mary Twiss in Milford, Rockingham County on December 10, 1839 (his birthday).
In 1860 this family was in Mount Vernon, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.
The family will be back in New Hampshire shortly.
CHARLES
A. PUTNAM Burrillville, Providence
County
He is a
farmer 45 MA, his wife Cordelia A. Brown is 46 born in Smithfield, Charles E.
21 born in Smithfield, Adolphus D. 18 born in Smithfield, Eliza J. 16 MA, Alvin
L. 14 born in Smithfield, Ella V. 12 born in Smithfield, Lillie 10 born in
Smithfield, Sarah M. 6 born in Smithfield. We believe that Charles A. Putnam is
the son of David Putnam (2172) and Rebecca Church originally from Sutton, Mass.
PHILANDER
PUTNAM Burrillville, Providence County
He is a
quarry man 41 CT, his wife Margaretta Norcross is 39 VT, Herbert E. 18 MA,
Clara E. 15 born in Smithfield. Albro Philander
Putnam is the son of David Putnam and Rebecca Church.
JASON
D. PUTNAM Cranston, Providence County
He is a
clerk 25 CT and is boarding in a house headed by John Kay. Jason D. Putnam is
the son of William Putnam and Lois Pierce Tuckerman from Sterling, Windham
County, Conn. He was at home in 1850 and 1860 but is missing from the 1870. Not
sure where Jason is off to next but by 1900, he will be living with his brother
Alexander Putnam in Plainfield, Windham County, Conn.
ADOLPHUS
D. PUTNAM North Smithfield, Providence
County
He is a
hired man 19 MA and is listed in a house headed by Joseph R. Park. This is a
dual listing for the Adolphus at him with Charles A. and Cordelia Putnam in Burrillville.
WILLIE
PUTNAM Pawtucket, Providence County
He is a
painter 22 ME and is boarding in a house headed by Samuel D. Richardson. They
are several Willie Putnams from Maine that might be a match. Not sure who he is
though.
ELLA
PUTNAM Providence, Ward 4, Providence
County
She is
a school teacher 36 born in Providence. Her son Sydney is at school 16 born in
Providence. They are living with Ella’s parents Scott Smith 72 born in
Providence and Ada Smith 69 born in Providence. Ellen is the widow of Avery D.
Putnam. They were married on 28 Sep 1854. They moved to New York City where
Avery was murdered on 29 Apr 1871. Ellen then moved back here with her parents.
Ellen will die here on 25 May 1885.
LUCIUS
H. PUTNAM Providence, Ward 4, Providence
County
He is a
bookkeeper 24 MA and is boarding in a house headed by Harriet J.P. Chase.
Lucius H. Putnam is the son of George L. Putnam and Eliza Ann Richards. He was
born in Lowell, Mass. on 16 Apr. 1851. Not sure where Lucius if off to after
this listing. Lucius will end up in New York City where he will die in the
Brooklyn City Hospital on 16 Jun. 1903. He will then be brought back to Lowell
where he is buried.
MARY
PUTNAM Providence, Ward 7, Providence
County
She is
18 CT and is listed as a niece to Thomas B. Wilbur 78 born in Warwick and Abby
B. Wilbur 67 born in North Kingstown. Mary Putnam is a daughter of Asa
Spaulding Putnam (1635) and Sarah Elizabeth Wilbur of Canterbury, Connecticut.
Mary will be here in 1880 with her sister Harriet. Mary will then marry William
Harrison Clewley on 30 Nov. 1881.
SARAH
L. PUTNAM Providence, Ward 9, Providence
County
She is
33 born in Providence and is the married daughter of George L. Nottage 82 MA
and Almira Nottage 68 MA. Not sure how she fits in.
AUSTN
PUTNAM Woonsocket, Providence County
He is a
carpenter 45 MA, his wife Roxanna is Perkins 47 VT, Abbie E. 23 MA, Frank A. 19
MA. The age is a bit off but this is Austin Putnam, the son of Tyler Putnam and
Mary Shumway. Austin was born on 21 Jan 1818 in Auburn, Mass. they were in
Auburn in 1860 and will be back in Massachusetts in Dudley in 1880.
This is
now the full 1880 census, not just the Soundex portion.
He is
26 RI, Ruth A. 19 RI and Raymond H. 2 RI. Back in 1860, he was at home with his
parents Charles Putnam and Cordelia Brown in Smithfield.
He is a
farmer 50 MA MA MA,
Cordelia A. Brown his wife is 51 RI RI RI, Alvin L. 20 RI, Ella L. 18 RI, Lilly 16 RI and Sarah M.
12 RI. Cordelia will die here in 1897 and he will be widowed here living with
his married daughter Cordelia in 1900. Pretty sure he is a son of David Putnam
(2172) from Sutton. He has been here in Rhode Island since the 1850s.
Albro Philander Putnam is now a stone
mason, now 45 CT CT CT,
Margaretta Norcross 43 VT VT VT.
Also here are their daughter, Clara E. 21 MA and her husband Herbert E. Pollock
23 RI RI RI. Phil is a son
of David Putnam (2172) from Sutton and Rebecca. Okay, now we get some confusion
and a big clerical error. Remember the guy going house to house writes stuff on
a notepad or form and then gives it to a clerk who enters it on the census pages
in the book. There have been lots of these errors in transcribing. The Herbert
here is not a Pollock nor is he married to Clara. Herbert is a son of Philander
born back in Millville January 8, 1856 and has been here with the folks in 1860
and 1870. He will die here in Burrville January 17,
1890. Clara is his sister. Now Clara may well be married to a Pollock fella but
not to her brother Herb. The guy writing the info in must have taken a quick
sip of coffee or whiskey and when he started writing again
he screwed up. That’s my guess.
He is
34 CT MA CT and boarding. He is a butcher. He is a son of Willard Putnam and
Lois Tuckerman. He was born in Sterling, Connecticut. He was in Worcester in
1870 and will be in Plainfield, Connecticut in 1900 living with his brother
Alex. Looks as if he never married.
He is
32 MA, Mary Lizzie Dow 26 NH and they have Alice
Gertrude 1 RI. He is a son of Israel W. and Hannah Putnam of Andover,
Mass. Israel W. was a son of Israel number 1945. He was born there June 10,
1848 and married Mary March 21, 1876 in Lawrence, Mass. They will be here the
rest of their lives, or through 1920 at least. Mary was born in 1854 and will
die in Warwick in 1928. George will die in 1929.
He is
29 MA NH NH and boarding. He is a bookkeeper. He is a
son of George Putnam and his first wife Elmira from Hudson, N.H. in 1860.
George and Lucius were in Woodstock, Windham County, Conn. in 1870.
Mary L.
is 18 CT CT CT, her sister
Harriet E. 18 CT CT CT, and
they are boarding. They are daughters of Asa Spaulding Putnam of Windham
County, Connecticut. They were home with their widowed mother in 1870.
Ellen
Putnam listed as daughter 38 RI RI RI and her son Sidney 22 RI MA RI is listed as a grandson
of Scott and Ada Smith who are Ellen’s folks. Ellen married Avery D. Putnam
here September 28, 1854. She and Sidney were here in 1860, and they were all in
New York City in 1870. Avery was murdered there April 28, 1871. There is a
death record that Ellen will die here May 25, 1885 at age 53. There also is a
death record that Sidney will die here August 3, 1883 at age 25. Avery was a
son of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena Bassett
from Holden, Worcester County.
He is 54 CND CND CND, Eliza 45 CND,
George 22 CND, Delina 17 CND, Mary
14 CND, Charles 10 RI, and Ida 8 RI. He is listed as Nelson Putnam on the page
but he isn't a Putnam at all. His real name is Narcisse Portelance and they were listed here as such in the 1875
Rhode Island census. Narcisse becomes so disgusted with the shoddy job the
census taker does with his name that he packs his bags and returns to Quebec
after this. Narcisse Portelance and family
will be found in the 1881 Canadian Census in Grondines,
Portneuf County, Quebec. Not one of ours in the least
but leaving him here so you don't get confused too.
She is 52
VT and boarding. She is visiting friends or perhaps her daughter in law’s
family (Larned). She is Roxanna Perkins, wife of
Austin Putnam. She is also listed back home in Dudley Center, Worcester County,
Mass. with him.
ALVIN

team driver 25 born in Smithfield, his wife Emma is 26 born in England, Ada M.
5 born in Burrillville, Russell C. 1 born in Burrillville. Alvin Putnam is a

CHARLES
A. PUTNAM Burrillville, Providence
County
He is a
famer 55 MA, his wife Cordelia Brown 56 born in Smithfield, Sarah M. 16 born in
Smithfield. Pretty sure he is a son of David Putnam (2172) and Rebecca Church
originally from Sutton, Mass.
PHILANDER
PUTNAM Burrillville, Providence County
He is a
stone mason 51 CT, his wife Margaretta Norcross is 49 VT, Herbert E. an
engineer in a railroad mill 28 MA. Albro Philander Putnam
is the son of David Putnam and Rebecca Church.

She is
a wool weaver 24 born in Burrillville and is listed as divorced. Her child is
Raymond H. Putnam 6 born in Burrillville. Also here is a stepson William F.
Putnam 14 born in Gloucester. Ruth Hawkes is the estranged wife of Charles E.
Putnam now in Smithfield. They will get divorced and by 1900 Ruth will have
remarried Frederick Morris. Raymond's name will be changed to Morris as well.
He will be known as Raymond H. Morris, will marry Elizabeth Walker and settle
in Burlington, Vermont.
LOUISA
PUTNAM Cranston, Providence County
She is
38 born in Providence and is an inmate at either an asylum or a prison. Her
parents were listed as being from Rhode Island.
SARAH
L. PUTNAM Cumberland, Providence County
She is
retired 80 ME and is living with her married daughter Sarah R. Alexander 48 MA
and son-in-law William A. Alexander 56 born in Cumberland. She is Sarah Soule
Ludden, the widow of Silas Leland Putnam.
JENNIE
PUTNAM Providence, Ward 6, Providence
County
She is
a loom worker 21 born in Nova Scotia and is boarding. She may be Phebe Jane
Putnam who was in Maitland, Nova Scotia in the 1871 and 1881 Canadian census.
That is just a guess however. If correct then she is the daughter of Joseph
Putnam and Jessie Clark. She will marry David S. Cinclair
in 1891 in MN.
ABBIE
W. & HARRIET E. PUTNAM Providence,
Ward 8, Providence County
Abbie
is a house keeper 33 CT and her sister Harriet has no occupation 23 CT. They
are living with their brother-in-law William Harrison Clewley
32 NY and married sister Mary P. Clewley 28 CT. They
are daughters of Asa Spaulding Putnam (1635) and Sarah Elizabeth Wilbur of
Canterbury, Connecticut. Abbie will be here in 1900, 1910 and in 1920, still
single.
WALDO
C. PUTNAM Providence, Ward 10,
Providence County
He is a
clerk 29 MA, his wife Mary is 28 MA, Jennie 1 born in Providence. He is listed
as Walter but he is Waldo Clayton Putnam, the son of Francis A. Putnam and Jane
E. Hewett. Waldo was born on 6 Jul 1856, Paxton, Worcester County,
Massachusetts. His wife is Mary Martin. Jennie L. Putnam will die here on 12
May 1888 at 3 years. Waldo and Mary will have another daughter Alice about 1890
before Waldo either dies or takes a permanent vacation. Mary will be remarried
to an Edmund Perry and will be living with Alice in Providence in the 1900
census.
CHARLIE
E. PUTNAM North Smithfield, Providence
County
He is a
stableman 32 born in Smithfield and is boarding. He is the son of Charles
Putnam and Cordelia Brown of Smithfield. In 1880 Charles was in Burrillville
with his wife Ruth Hawkes and son Raymond. They are in Burrillville now. Looks
like they separated.
IDA
R. PUTNAM Warwick, Providence County
She is
a housewife 33 born in Providence. Her children are Edith L. 5 WY, George 4 WY,
Mary 3 WY. Ida Robinson Smith is the wife of Clarence Francis Putnam. They were
in Cheyanne, Laramie County, Wyoming in
